Coutnac Beach, on the shores of the Outer Harbour of Penetang Bay (Georgian Bay), Tiny Township, Ontario, founded in 1958, is Canada's first formally planned shoreline community.
Coutnac Beach is named as a linguistic portmanteau of the late founding developers' names: Wilfrid Coutu and Jerome Gignac. Coutnac Beach definitely sounds better than Gigtu Beach. Wise choice – Wilf and Jerry – thank you!
Mr. Coutu and Mr. Gignac (once Mayor of Penetanguishene), partners in the Penetanguishene Realty Co. Ltd., developed the subdivision in phases providing the option of having a residence built with a given lot purchase. We are grateful to both these land development pioneers for their forethought, vision and initiative to develop our community as it stands today.
We are a tight-knit and family-friendly community that is supported and stewarded by a long-standing, established, and proficient community association of hard-working and dedicated volunteers/members – the Coutnac Beach Property Owners Association (CBPOA).
With over sixty-five (65) years of history, we are thankful and grateful of our rich tapestry, the CBPOA, and a truly unique sense of place bestowed to us which enriches the lives of all Coutnac residents.
